Communities across the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast are being encouraged to take part in the municipal budget and Integrated Development Plan (IDP) roadshows being hosted by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality throughout April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public meetings are aimed at giving residents a direct platform to engage with local government on important issues affecting their communities, while also helping shape the municipality\u2019s plans for the upcoming financial year. These roadshows form part of the municipality\u2019s annual consultation process, where community voices are considered in decisions around budgeting, service delivery and long-term development planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Municipal officials say the roadshows are especially important because they allow residents to raise concerns about everyday challenges such as water shortages, poor road conditions, sanitation problems, electricity interruptions and waste management. Many communities across the South Coast continue to face service delivery difficulties, making these discussions a crucial part of ensuring local priorities are not overlooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Integrated Development Plan serves as the municipality\u2019s main strategic framework, outlining key projects, infrastructure developments and service delivery goals over a set period. The municipal budget then determines how funding will be allocated to support these projects. By attending the roadshows, residents are able to influence which issues should receive urgent attention and how resources should be directed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Areas including Port Shepstone, Margate, Hibberdene and surrounding communities are expected to take part in the sessions, with ward councillors and municipal representatives present to answer questions and gather public input. For young people, the roadshows also present an opportunity to raise concerns around youth development, job creation, skills training and recreational facilities.
